Abiotic
2. Without life.
Abiotic comes from the Greek word "a" meaning "to do without," the Greek word "bios" meaning "life," and the Greek word "ikos" meaning "pertaining to." Put the two words together and you have "pertaining to doing without life."
1. Pertaining to abiosis, which is a condition or situation in which life cannot exist. Thus, abiotic means incompatible with life.
