Depersonalization
A psychological condition in which a person feels as if he/she has lost his/her personal identity in relation to family and peers. The person may also feel detached from his/her own surroundings or reality. Depersonalization is often the result of anxiety, tiredness, or stress. Depersonalization comes from the Latin word "de," meaning "away" and the Greek word "persona" meaning "mask." Put the two words together and you have "away (with the) mask." The mask is symbolic of one's personality.
