FEATURED BOOKS ON ENCEPHALOPATHY FROM BARNES & NOBLE.COM:

Disorders of Mental Status: Dementia, Encephalopathy, Coma, SyncopeNational Childhood Encephalopathy Study: A 10-Year Follow-Up

Encephalopathy means any disease or disorder of the structure or function of the brain, especially those that are destructive, worsening, or chronic. Chronic means to last or frequently reoccur over a long period of time. As an example, see hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, which is permanent brain injury due to a lack of oxygen or poor blood flow to the brain.

Encephalopathy is also known as encephalopathia, encephalosis, cerebropathy, and cerebropathia. Encephalopathy comes from the Greek word "enkephalos" meaning "brain," and the Greek word "pathos" meaning "suffering." Put the two words together and you get "brain suffering."
