Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Potassium But Were too Tired to AskPotassium Channels in Normal and Pathological Conditions

Kaluresis means increased excretion of the metallic element, potassium, in the urine (pee). To excrete means to release from the body as waste. It is not good if too much potassium is released from the body because potassium is necessary to live. It plays an important role in helping adjust the amount of water in the body, move muscles, and conduct nerve impulses. Kaluresis comes from the Latin word "kalium" meaning "potassium," and the Greek word "ouresis" meaning "urination." Put the two words together and you have "potassium (in the) urine."
