Keratomycosis is a fungus infection of the cornea. A fungus is a simple type of parasite. A parasite is an organism that lives in or on another organism to obtain nourishment. The cornea is the clear covering at the front of the eyeball. Keratomycosis comes from the Greek word “keras” meaning “horn,” the Greek word “mykes” meaning “fungus,” and the Greek word “osis” meaning “condition.” Put the words together and you get “horn fungus condition.”
