Keratoscleritis is inflammation of the cornea and sclera. The cornea is the clear covering at the front of the eyeball. The sclera is the whites of the eyes. Keratoscleritis comes from the Greek word “keras” meaning “horn,” Greek word “skleros” meaning “hard,” and the Greek word “itis” meaning “inflammation.” Put the words together and you get “hard horn inflammation.”
