FEATURED BOOKS ON MASTURBATION FROM BARNES & NOBLE.COM:
Masturbate
From a historical perspective, in the 19th century it was wrongly believed that masturbation can result in blindness, insanity, or other disorders. This belief was probably due to the observation that patients with severe mental impairments, such as mental retardation or schizophrenia, sometimes masturbate in public. Schizophrenia is a type of mental disorder in which one loses contact with reality. In reality, masturbation is a sign of mental illness but not a cause. Masturbation also occurs in other forms of brain damage such as dementia. Dementia is a mental disorder characterized by a significant loss of intellectual and cognitive abilities without impairment of perception or consciousness. Masturbate comes from the Latin word “masturbari” meaning “hand defilement.”
The process of masturbation. Masturbation is self-stimulating activity of the penis, vagina, or clitoris for erotic pleasure, often resulting in orgasm. Medically speaking, masturbation is considered to be a normal activity that does not cause any physical or mental harm. It is estimated that over 90% of men and 65% of women masturbate. It is performed at least occasionally by most people, especially teenagers and young adults. For both males and females, massaging the penis or clitoris is the preferred method of stimulation.
