Ped- is a word part that means one of two things in the field of medicine:

1. Child. For example, see the entry for pediatrics, a medical specialty that deals with the study of the health, diseases, disabilities, and treatments of children during development, from birth through adolescence (a period of life ranging from puberty to adulthood). Puberty is the period of life in which the ability to reproduce begins. Puberty usually begins between the ages of 11 and 13. This meaning of "ped" comes from the Greek word "pais" meaning "child."

2. Foot or feet. This meaning of the word comes from the Latin word "pes" meaning "foot."
