Periventricular means around or near a ventricle. A ventricle is an opening or chamber in the body. For example, there are ventricles in the heart and ventricles in the brain. Periventricular comes from the Greek word "peri" meaning "around" and the Latin word "venter" meaning "belly." Put the words together and you have "around (the) belly."
