FEATURED BOOKS ON PROSTHETICS FROM BARNES & NOBLE.COM:
Prosthetics is the art and science of making, adjusting, and attaching artificial (fake) human body parts as replacements for the functioning of missing, diseased, or damaged body parts. A fake human body part, in this sense, is known as a prosthetic. Many dentists and surgeons make use of prosthetics to help their patients. For example, a dentist may give a patient fake teeth if the patient is missing teeth. A surgeon may give a patient a fake leg if the patient has lost his/her leg in an accident. Prosthetics comes from the Greek word "prosthesis" meaning "an addition."
