Radiculalgia means pain due to irritation of the sensory root (the lowest part) of a nerve in the spine. The pain is severe, throbbing, or stabbing. Radiculalgia comes from the Latin word "radix" meaning "root," and the Greek word "algos" meaning "pain." Put the two words together and you get "root pain."
