Rehydration is the return of water to a system after its loss. An example is the return of a normal amount of water to a patient by giving him/her fluids by mouth or through the veins. Veins are types of blood vessels that carry blood to the heart. Rehydration comes from the Latin word “re” meaning “again,” and the Greek word “hydor” meaning “water.” Put the words together and you get “again water.”
