Taboo
2. Set apart for ceremonial or religious purposes.
Taboo is also written as tabu. Taboo comes from the Tongan word "ta-bu" meaning "set apart." Tonga is a Polynesian island in the South Pacific Ocean.
1. Something in society that is restricted, forbidden, or prevented from being done. Taboos are considered unacceptable or improper. Different cultures have different taboos. For example, to have sex with one's family members is considered taboo in most cultures, but in some cultures it is considered acceptable.
